Therapy dog training classes

GOODRICH — Mid-Michigan therapy dogs will host training classes at the Goodrich United Methodist Church starting Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. Dogs can be any size or breed, of good temperament, well socialized and have basic obedience skills. Dogs will be tested for the Canine Good Citizen Certification. VFW karaoke contest

FLINT — Each Friday in August there will be a karaoke contest at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #822, 5065 S. Saginaw St., Registration begins at 7 p.m. (no charge to the contestant), and the contest will begin at 9 p.m. Finals will be held Sept. 9. There are cash prizes.

New Century Chorale seeks members

GRAND BLANC TWP. — The New Century Chorale is actively seeking new members of all voice parts for the 2016-2017 season. NCC is a 40-50 voice adult community choir that rehearses and performs in Grand Blanc at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. Our rehearsals are Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m. Auditions will take place Aug. 29 from 7-9pm in 10 minute time slots at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church or by appointment. Kids Kicking Cancer coming to GHCI

FLINT — On Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. there will be a karate demonstration sponsored by Kidney Cancer Support Group of Michigan, Chabad, and Jewish Federation of Flint. Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg, a black belt father, author, and clinical assistant professor pediatrics will present a group of children (boys and girls) demonstrating martial arts and relaxation techniques.

Rabbi Goldberg is known in the U.S. and some foreign countries for his accomplishments. “Kids Kicking Cancer’ have been featured in People Magazine, Good Morning America, the Early Show, CNN Heroes and by media all over the world.
