Library Friends need books

GOODRICH — The Goodrich Friends of the Library will hold their Annual Fall Book and Bake Sale, next month and are looking for book donations to be dropped off at the Goodrich Library, 10237 Hegel Rd. Church sponsoring euchre tournament on Sept. 9

VFW karaoke contest

FLINT — Each Friday in August, with the exception of Aug. 19, there will be a karaoke contest at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #822, 5065 S. Saginaw St., Registration begins at 7 p.m. (no charge to the contestant), and the contest will begin at 9 p.m. Finals will be held Sept. 9. There are cash prizes.

Kids Kicking Cancer coming to GHCI

FLINT — On Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. there will be a karate demonstration sponsored by Kidney Cancer Support Group of Michigan, Chabad, and Jewish Federation of Flint. Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg, a black belt father, author, and clinical assistant professor pediatrics will present a group of children (boys and girls) demonstrating martial arts and relaxation techniques.

Genesee County Animal Control honored

GENESEE COUNTY — The Michigan Pet Fund Alliance Board of Directors has recognized Genesee County Animal Control with the 2015 Michigan’s Most Improved — Large Shelter Award with a 20 percent life-saving improvement and a live releaserate of 86 percent.

Animal Control Director Paul Wallace will be presented the award at the 2016 Michigan Pet Fund Alliance Awards Banquet at the Getting to the Goal Conference on Sept. 15, at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre, Grand Blanc. — G.G.
