Sign up now for free Chamber Job Fair

FLINT TWP. — Local employers looking to fill full- and part-time positions will meet with job seekers during the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Job Fair on Sept. 23 at Baker College of Flint.

Individuals planning to attend the Job Fair, which is free and open to the public, are also encouraged to complete the Career Edge pre-employment training program. The free, four-day workshop series will next take place on Sept. 8, 9, 15 and 16 at Durant- Tuuri-Mott Elementary, at 1518 University Ave. in Flint. Businesses that would like to participate in the job fair must register by September 9. Employer registration is free for Chamber members and $100 for non-members. For more information, or to register a business for the event, call 810- 600-4067.

YMCA to host “Why the Y Advocacy Day Event”

FLINT – The YMCA of Greater Flint will be hosting community leaders as part of their participation in the Michigan State Alliance of YMCA’s advocacy week events on Sept. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. The YMCA of Greater Flint will host tours as well as events showcasing the local missions at Camp Copneconic, the Pierson Road Family YMCA and the Downtown location.

The YMCA is much more than a gym and advocacy day will assist in building important relationships between the Y and local community leaders. The “Why the Y Advocacy Event” will elaborate on the Y’s three areas of foc us: YouthDevelopment, Healthy Livin g and Social Responsibility. Over 35,000 youth, family and seniors are served in the area with a holistic approach, of caring for the spirit, mind and body.

1:30 p.m. Hurley Partner Camps- Easy Breathers/ Camp Move It

2:30 p.m. Pierson Rd Tour, Kids Corner, Pool, Gyms, Group Fitness, Healthy Heart Ambassador

4 p.m. Safe Places Testimonials

4:15 p.m. Activity with Safe Places Kids

Guests expected to attend include: Super Intendents and Principals from local school districts, Business Leaders. Non – Profit Leaders, Fire & Police Chiefs, State and Federal Senators, District Judges, City Commissioners and University and College Presidents. — G.G.
