Name meeting is tonight
FLINT TWP. — Township Supervisor Karyn Miller has set a public meeting for 6 p.m. tonight, September 29, to discuss changing the township’s name. Miller convened a committee in 2012 to discuss the issue but it decided not to pursue it. Several residents recently have brought up the issue again, citing negative fallout from the water crisis in Flint. – R.S.
Township shredding day is Saturday
FLINT TWP. — Shredding Day, the second of two organized each year by the township clerk is set to be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 1 at the township offices, 1490 S. Dye Road. The event allows township residents to bring confidential documents to be professionally shredded by a mobile shredding truck. Each resident is allowed to bring two boxes of documents per vehicle. — R.S.
Clerk to speak at library about organ donations
FLINT TWP. — Genesee County Clerk John J. Gleason will speak at the Genesee Valley Center mall library branch, on October 5 at 4 p.m., as part of the Michigan Libraries for Life Organ Donor Registration Drive, which runs from Oct. 3-9.
Gleason just celebrated the 15th anniversary of his own lifesaving gift of a kidney transplant. During his tenure in the state House of Representatives and state Senate, Gleason sponsored legislation for the John J. Gleason Gift of Life Plate, which donates $25 of every $35 license plate to organ donation education.

Get your Pig Roast Tickets
FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Senior Center’s 5th annual Pig Roast is planned for noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the center, 2071 S. Graham Road. The Whisnants to perform in free church concert
FLINT TWP. — Come on out for a wonderful night of Southern Gospel music at Central Church of the Nazarene on Sunday, Oct. 2. Special guests will be The Thurstons. This is a non-ticketed event but a love offering will be received. In more than 40 years, The Whisnants have performed all across the nation and around the world, including Canada, Hawaii and cruises sailing to the Bahamas, Belize and Mexico. The trio has celebrated 13 #1 songs spanning from 2001 to 2013 and their first single for 2014, They also have appeared on the Gospel Music Southern Style Program (INSP Network), the Gaither Video Taping in Nashville. — R.S.
