Salvation Army Red Kettle bell ringers sought

FLINT — The Salvation Army of Genesee County will host two job fairs in October to recruit bell ringers for the upcoming 2016 Red Kettle Campaign.

The job fairs will be held on Oct. 5, from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. at the Beecher Corps located at 1475 W. Coldwater Rd. and Oct. 13, from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. at the Citadel Corps located at 211 W. Kearsley St. in downtown Flint at the corners of Beach Street and Kearsley Street.

Captain Caleb Senn, the Regional Coordinator of The Salvation Army Genesee/Shiawassee County Regional Command, said that he expects each location to hire more than 100 workers, and that people need to show up early for the job fairs in order to have their information processed.

The jobs will pay $8.40 an hour, but there may be some bonuses for performance for those hired at the Beecher Corps location.

To apply for a bell ringer position, applicants are required to attend one of the October job fairs. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and will be required to present a valid driver’s license or state ID, Social Security card and a schedule of availability.

The Salvation Army Red Kettle bell ringing season kicks off on Friday, Nov. 4 and continues through Dec. 24. Workers ring bells every day except Sundays and on Thanksgiving Day.

During the job fairs, applicants will have background checks run, as well as a short orientation. The total application time will be approximately 60 minutes, Senn said.
