Name change public hearing set for Jan. 12
FLINT TWP. — The next meeting of the Suggestion Committee which is exploring the idea of changing the township’s name, will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 12 at the township hall, 1490 S. Dye Road. The Committee is midway through a fact-finding process and is seeking public opinion on the suggestions to change the township name and/or convert to a city. Residents and business owners are encouraged to attend the open meeting. — R.S.
Library holiday hours
FLINT TWP. — All branches of the Genesee District Library will be closed Saturday, December 24 through Monday, December 26 for Winter Break, and on December 31, January 1 and 2 for the New Year holiday. – R.S.

MCC partnering with Scouts for career exploration
FLINT — Mott Community College (MCC) and the Tall Pine Council of the Boy Scouts of America are co-sponsoring a career-oriented Explorer Post in 2017.
The group will give high school students an opportunity to learn about their chosen career field through hands-on activities and experiences with MCC faculty in five career areas: Health Science, Business, Math & Science, Technology, and Arts Technology.
“Our goal is to provide young people with a deeper understanding of their career interests through direct contact with College faculty and experiential learning,” said Carla Clark, Academic Outreach Coordinator at MCC.
Students interested in the program can sign up at the Boy Scout Service Center, 507 W. Atherton Road, on the following dates and times:
Dec. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dec. 27-29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Jan. 3-5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Topics covered in each of the Career fields include:
Health Science – Dental Assisting/ Hygiene, Respiratory Therapy, Physical & Occupational Therapy, Allied Health, and Health & Wellness.
