Concert season begins at The Whiting
FLINT — The 2017 concert season will get off to a great start when musicians from across mid-Michigan join together for a special performance on Jan. 6 at The Whiting.
The concert, part of Mid-Michigan Band and Orchestra Day (MMBOD), will feature more than 350 accomplished high school musicians.
MMBOD is a full-day event for selected musicians. The young artists will spend the day at the Flint School of Performing Arts taking master classes, instrument specific sectional sessions, workshops, as well as rehearsing together for the culminating concert that evening at 7 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for students. Highlights of the concert program include Frank Tichelli’s Simple Gifts, conducted by Dr. Mary Schneider of Eastern Michigan University, and Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43 – IV. Finale, conducted by the Flint Symphony Orchestra’s Enrique Diemecke.
In addition, 12 area high schools will have students participating in MMBOD.
