Old Newsboys’ Christmas sign-up starting soon

GENESEE COUNTY — The Old Newsboys of Flint will soon open enrollment in their Christmas Box Program which has been serving children from Genesee County’s lowincome families for 87 years. Kidney cancer support group

Free cervical cancer offered

FLINT — To ensure all women have access to life-saving cervical cancer screening, the University of Michigan Health System and Verizon are partnering to offer free pap tests from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Nov. 5, at the University of Michigan-Flint Urban Health an Wellness Center, 309 N. Harrison, Flint. Cervical cancer, a disease easily identified through painless Pap smears, is the cause of more than eleven deaths among women each day. In Michigan, where the state-wide rate of cervical cancer is consistently higher than the national rate, there is an increased need for screening programs, particularly for women who do not have health insurance. — G.G.
