Free program in Flint to help residents manage diabetes
FLINT — The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is hosting a free health workshop in Flint from Feb. 22 to April 5 to help individuals with diabetes improve their health and manage their symptoms.
The Diabetes Personal Action Toward Health (Diabetes PATH) class will meet on Wednesdays from 12:30-3 p.m. at Fair Haven Seventh Day Adventist Church, located at 1379 Louis Ave. in Flint.
The Diabetes PATH workshop provides information and skills to adults with type 2 diabetes so they are better equipped to face the daily challenges of living with their condition. Workshops are conducted by two trained leaders (one or both of whom have diabetes themselves) who hold informal, small group discussions and provide easy-to-understand course materials.
Registration for Diabetes PATH is required and space is limited. To register for this program, please call Chisandra Lambert at 810-813-5702. To learn more about Diabetes PATH, or find other Diabetes PATH classes currently held by the NKFM in Michigan, visit www.nkfm.org/ path. — G.G.
VG’S to support Habitat during fundraising effort
GENESEE COUNTY — Genesee County Habitat for Humanity is partnering with the SpartanNash Foundation, owners of VG’s Supermarkets — during its retail scan campaign to provide shelter in the local community.
Between now and Feb. 19, store guests who visit any of the five VG’s Supermarkets in Genesee County will have the opportunity to donate $1, $5 or $10 at any checkout lane, with 100 percent of dollars raised going to Genesee County Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope.
SpartanNash is the fifth largest food distributor in the United States and has more than 155 corporate-owned stores in eight states participating in the companywide retail scan campaign.
In 2016, nearly $825,000 was granted through the SpartanNash Foundation’s companywide scan campaigns, benefitting local Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, patriotic and food pantry partners. — G.G.
