Police activity report

FLINT TWP.— Police officers responded to 1133 calls for service during the past week, Police Chief George Sippert reported In his twice monthly police activity report to the Township Board of Trustees Monday night. Of those calls, 71 were automobile accidents with nine of those involving injuries, he said. Also officers responded to 48 domestic disturbances, 26 home invasion or burglary calls and conducted 262 residence and business checks. The department also received 76 911 hangup calls. —R.S.

Early riser networking event planned for Dec. 9

FLINT TWP. —“Whatchamacallit,” a holiday networking event, will be hosted by the Swartz Creek Chamber of Commerce from 6-9 a.m. on Dec. 9 at Financial Plus Federal Credit Union, 3381 Van Slyke Road. Money and non-perishable food items will be collected to benefit the Eastern Michigan Food Bank. Monetary donations will also be collected for the Old Newsboys of Flint in memory of the late Ed Campbell of Grand Blanc who served on the board of directors for Financial Plus and Old Newsboys.— R.S.

Christmas tree sales lot OK’d

FLINT TWP.— The township board at its Monday night meeting approved an outdoor seasonal sales permit for a Christmas tree lot in the northeast corner of the Kmart parking lot, 3083 Miller Road. As in past years, the lot will be operated by Hugh Bowling of Fruitful Acres Farms of Bear Lake from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. beginning Friday through Dec. 25. — R.S.

Book fair planned

FLINT TWP. — Barnes and Noble Bookfair will take place Dec. 10, 9a.m.-11p.m. at the Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 4370 Miller Rd., Genesee Valley Mall. This is in support of the Swartz Creek Band Boosters. Most in-store purchases will qualify for a portion of the sales to be donated to the band program at no extra cost to the customer. Just mention at checkout that you are participating in the book fair or present a voucher available from a band member or in the store that day. Students will be performing throughout the day as well as offering free gift wrap for your purchases. Can’t make it to the store? Free breakfast with Santa

GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Optimist Club is sponsoring a free breakfast with Santa on Dec. 3, at the Grand Blanc Township Hall from 9 a.m. to noon. Grand Blanc Township Hall is located at 5371 S. Saginaw Road just north of the Grand Blanc Police Station. Children receive a FREE picture with Santa along with a special treat. The Grand Blanc Optimist Club is a service organization that helps to improve the lives of children in the community. Have questions?
