Local organizations to Host Holistic Heal the water event
FLINT – As the trauma from the Flint Water Crisis carries on, The Serenity House of Flint and Healthy Healing Roots decided to answer the call for help. ‘Heal the Water’ is a community event that will offer holistic options to detox lead and release trauma from the people of Flint. Flint’s Local 432, located at 124 W. 1st Street, Flint, 48502 on May 7 from 3-9 p.m., will host this event. Admission to the event is a $5 donation at the door.
“The answer to Flint’s water crisis has been minimal in terms of how to restore the body to balance. There are holistic options available that can gently detox the body from high lead levels. These methods include energy medicine, acu-detox, specialized massage, yoga, and homeopathies. Unfortunately, many Flintarea Western Medicine doctors do not recognize holistic medicine as a complementary medicine to lead detox and we hope to change that mindset with this much needed event,” says Tara Moreno, Executive Director of The Serenity House.
The activities will include an opening Cacao (raw chocolate) ceremony, Ool Pardi performing StrongHeart Drum Medicine, Yin Yoga with Jamie Ford of Samhadi Yoga, Tai Chi with Dawei Li, Trauma Release with Nick Meador of Detroit’s Inner Waymark, Spoken word with Nic Custer of East Village, Flint’s Alexis Harvey and Zak and What Army? of Detroit, and music by Soiree with Divine Dance Journey led by Alyssa Pinkerton and Becca Townsend of Flint Sustainability Project along with Live Art by Pauly Everett. The Ending Ceremony/ Guided Meditation will be led by Tara Moreno, Executive Director of the Serenity House. There will be a space for kids of all ages to practice mindfulness, yoga, breath work, meditation, arts and crafts. There will also be education on the importance of taking care of the planet and the water. Free reiki/energy medicine, massage, and acupuncture/ acu-detox will go on during the entire event. Free heavy metal detox homeopathies donated from The Grainery will be distributed while supplies last.
Proceeds from this event will go to the Serenity House of Flint. Serenity House is a 501c3 recovery community organization that advocates on the current public health crisis of addiction as well informing the public of holistic options for recovery. Their new location is at 924 Church Street and is scheduled to open June 2017. – G.G.
