Local soldiers lost in battle to be memorialized

GENESEE COUNTY — During Memorial Day weekend, millions of NASCAR fans watching the Coca-Cola 600 on FOX will notice something a little different about the race cars.

In tribute to U.S. Armed Forces members who have fallen in service to their country, all 40 NASCAR Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers will have their names replaced on car windshields with those of fallen service members.

As part of NASCAR’s 600 Miles of Remembrance, Staff Sergeant Nicholas Sprovtsoff of Davison, and Master Sergeant Anthony Yost of Flint, will be featured on the No. 2 and No. 22 cars, respectively, driven by Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano.

The Coca-Cola 600 will be broadcast live from Charlotte Motor Speedway on FOX beginning at 6 p.m., May 28. — G.G.

Lake Callis is open in Davison Township

DAVISON TWP. – Lake Callis, 1152 N. Gale Rd., has opened for the season. This 40-acre complex has lots to do, even if it’s a little too cold to swim yet. Admission is free all week and there will be good food, beach volleyball, numerous games, a bounce house, free giveaways and much more. The park will be open from 9 a.m. to dusk. On May 27 there will be a summer kickoff for Lake Callis at which time the splash pad will be open, there will be a water safety class, a sidewalk chalk contest, Finding Dory as the beach movie, a scavenger hunt for prizes, a dunk tank, food trucks and more.
