GISD implements summer four-day work week

GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) will once again implement a four-day work week during the summer. This initiative is part of a continuing effort to substantially reduce energy costs for the district. The regular five-day work week will be compressed into a four-day work week to achieve these savings.

The summer schedule will begin June 26, and end with the last Friday off, Aug. 18. All GISD facilities will be closed on Fridays with the exception of a portion of the Erwin L. Davis Education Center and Business Services on Hill Road to accommodate critical/essential services as needed. The district’s summer business hours will be:

Russian Grand Ballet at the Whiting on Nov. 18

FLINT — Only one opportunity to see the Russian Grand Ballet’s full-length classical production of the world’s most famous ballet — Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, at the Whiting, including the rarely seen Waltz of the Black Swans, and featuring Russia’s brightest ballet stars, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m.

GCI students achieve 7 top state awards at MITES

GENESEE COUNTY — During the Michigan Industrial and Technology Education Society (MITES) Region 3 Leadership Conference, Genesee Career Institute (GCI) students earned several awards and the right to progress onto the MITES State Leadership Conference to compete for “Best in State Honors.”

Two GCI entries were awarded Best of Show in Graphic Communications and Wrought Metals at the Region 3 Conference. At the State Conference held at Saginaw Valley State University, the competition was fierce but GCI students received two gold, two silver, and three bronze plaques. The remaining entries received ribbons for fourth place up through honorable mention.

The Genesee Career Institute (GCI) provides instruction and experiential learning in many career areas that help prepare Genesee County students for immediate entry into the workforce, upon completion of high school and the GCI program. — G.G.
