Back to the Bricks Tune-up moving to new location
FLINT TWP. — After five years of hosting a Back to the Bricks Tune-up Party, township businesses will not be having an event this year. The west side preview of the annual car show is moving to Swartz Creek and Flushing, on Friday, August 11. Friday’s festivities will begin from 3-5 p.m. at the A-1 Treat Barn, 8541 Miller Rd. at Seymour Rd. in Swartz Creek (formerly the Dairy Queen) T-shirt tickets will be distributed at 4:15 pm. Food and drink specials will be offered for purchase. Parking is available on the grass behind the building by the water tower, and in the parking lot. From 5 -8 p.m. the party moves from Swartz Creek to the Flushing A, 200 S. Cherry Street with DJ Bob Steel spinning the “oldies.” T-shirts will be distributed by ELGA Credit Union from 7:00 to 7:30 pm. Other tune-ups will be in Davison, Monday, August 7; Clio, Tuesday, Aug. 8; Linden, Wednesday, Aug. 9; Fenton Thursday, Aug. 10 and Mt. Morris/Beecher on Saturday, Aug. 12. — R.S.
Senior Citizens Center events in August
FLINT TWP. — Taking advantage of summer weather, several upcoming senior events will be held outdoors. Coming up at the center pavilion from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11 is the Big Dance featuring the Fairlanes and the DeVille’s golden oldies music band. Tickets are $5 each in advance. The August Brunch will be an outdoor fish fry at a cost of $5 per person. And Tuesday, Aug. 22 is Senior Day at the Genesee County Fair. Free passes are available at the center. — R.S.
August events at library
FLINT TWP. — The Cameron Zvara Magic Show will be held at the Flint Township- McCarty Library, 2071 S Graham Rd. on Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. This variety show is filled with magic, comedy, juggling, stunts, music, and tons of audience participation.
The Headquarters Library, 4195 W Pasadena Ave., will host “Under Construction” with Sloan Longway on August 8 at 6 p.m. Kids will build tall towers, use magnets to sort hardware and follow a blueprint to build structures using hands-on STEM activities.
The Movie Club will meet at the Genesee Valley Center Library (Sears Wing) on Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m. Guests will discuss movies viewed at home.
The Genesee District Library (GDL) board meeting will be held on August 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Headquarters branch. The meetings are open to the public. — R.S.
