WFBA monthly meetings

FLINT TWP. — Chris Flores, Vice President of Business Development for Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center, will be the guest speaker at the monthly luncheon meeting of the West Flint Business Association, from noon to 1:15 on Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Valley Family Restaurant at Linden and Miller Roads. Flores will talk about the alcohol/drug/opioid issues in the community and the effects and availability of treatment. Sacred Heart was founded in Detroit in 1967 and has grown to become a nationally accredited, comprehensive behavioral health service provider. Also at the meeting, this year’s winner of the Don Eve Achievement Award will be announced. Don Eve was a founding member of the WFBA. The meeting is open to the public. – R.S.

Bristol Road Construction

FLINT TWP. — The Genesee County Road Commission announced that Bristol Road at I-69 will be under construction for concrete pavement and drainage structure repair beginning Monday, September 11 through Friday, October 27, when the work is expected to be completed. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction for the duration of the project. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution and to allow themselves additional time to reach their destinations. Convoy of Hope giveaway

FLINT TWP. — Flint Central Church of the Nazarene, 1261 W. Bristol Road is among local churches participating in the Convoy of Hope Community Event coming to Flint’s Bassett Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 16. More than 35,000 pounds of groceries will be given away while supplies last. A light lunch bag will be provided to everyone who attends. Prayer and support will be offered by local churches in addition to resources for veterans and career advice for the unemployed and underemployed. Live music and entertainment also will be offered. A kids zone will have free carnival games, inflatables and prizes. This oneday event will be held rain or shine and is open to everyone, no identification required. Shred Day date changed

FLINT TWP. – The date for the autumn Township Shredding Day has been changed. The new date will be 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 14 at the township administrative building, 1490 S. Dye Road. Township residents are allowed to bring up to two boxes of documents per vehicle. That applies to paper only. Items that will not be accepted include large binder clips, prescription pill bottles, vinyl notebooks (binders) and hard cover books, said Clerk Kathy Funk. Shredding Day is scheduled once in the spring and once in the fall when a shredder truck is brought to the parking lot to handle sensitive documents. — R.S.
