Genesee District Library – October Events

FLINT TWP. — Tech expert Ruth Britting will teach two computer use classes at the Flint Township-McCarty Library. The first class will teach you how to make the most of your computer tablet in a class at 1 p.m. October 2 followed by a class on how to make the most of iPad at 1 p.m. on October 3.

Friends of the Genesee Valley Center Library (in the Sears wing) will hold a used book and DVD sale, from 1-5 p.m. on October 13 and 14, offering low prices on books and DVDs. Also, this month, the GV library will hold a Literature Book Club meeting at 7 p.m. on October 10; a Nonfiction Book Club at 7 p.m. on October 17 and a Movie Club on at 5:30 p.m. October 26. Group members select books and movies.

Coming up at the Headquarters Library (HDQ), 4195 West Pasadena Avenue, are Open Lab Computer Classes from 2-3:30 p.m. on October 3, 10, 17 and 24 and from 5:30- 7 p.m. on October 5, 12, 19 and 26. Headquarters librarian Liz Kish will offer one-on-one help with computers and answer specific questions in the computer lab during these set times. All ages welcome. The HDQ also will offer a Maker Club at 5 p.m. on October 5 and 12; a Book Club meeting at 4 p.m. on October 25 and Story Time with Miss Liz at noon on October 7,14, and 21.

The GDL Board of Trustees will meet October 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Headquarters branch.— R.S.

FLINT TWP. — Flint Bishop International Airport will host its fourth TSA PreCheck Enrollment Center on Monday, October 16 through Friday, October 20. TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening program that enables identified low-risk air travelers to enjoy a more efficient screening experience. Applicants are encouraged to pre-enroll ahead of time at www.identogo.com/precheck. The application process is completed on site where TSA captures fingerprints for a background check and collects the $85 application fee for five years of service. The fee can be paid by credit card, money order, company check, or certified/cashier’s check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted. Bring proof of identity and U.S. citizen documentation (such as a U.S. Passport or a birth certificate and a driver license). FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools encourages the use of school facilities by district residents.
