Shred Day date coming soon

FLINT TWP. – The date for the autumn Township Shredding Day is 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 14 at the township administrative building, 1490 S. Dye Road. Township residents are allowed to bring up to two boxes of documents per vehicle. That applies to paper only. Items that will not be accepted include large binder clips, prescription pill bottles, vinyl notebooks (binders) and hard cover books, said Clerk Kathy Funk. Shredding Day is scheduled once in the spring and once in the fall when a shredder truck is brought to the parking lot to handle sensitive documents. Enter off Reuben Drive. — R.S.

Hamilton Community Health Network hosting breast cancer awareness event

GENESEE COUNTY- In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hamilton Community Health Network will host an informative session, “Chat and Chew Doctor’s Review.” The event will be held at the Flint Farmer’s Market, Ramsdell Room, Saturday, October 14, and will start at 11 a.m., shortly following the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.” Michael Scott Sabel, M.D. will discuss, “Trends in Breast Cancer Treatment.” Light refreshments will be provided. Also, participants will have an opportunity to win a gift card raffle. Representatives from Wright and Filippis will be on hand demonstrating how to properly detect abnormalities in the breast.

According to the American Cancer Society, “Breast cancer is still the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Only lung cancer kills more women each year. The chance that a woman will die from breast cancer is about 1 in 37 (about 2.7 percent).”

Hamilton Community Health Network and Michigan Medicine/University of Michigan have teamed up to provide specialty breast care services to Genesee, Lapeer and the surrounding communities. The U of M/Hamilton Breast Care Clinic is held at Hamilton’s Main Clinic location, 2900 N. Saginaw St., Flint, the first Friday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. — R.S.

FLINT TWP. — Flint Bishop International Airport will host its fourth TSA PreCheck Enrollment Center on Monday, October 16 through Friday, October 20. TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening program that enables identified low-risk air travelers to enjoy a more efficient screening experience. Applicants are encouraged to pre-enroll ahead of time at www.identogo.com/precheck. The application process is completed on site where TSA captures fingerprints for a background check and collects the $85 application fee for five years of service. The fee can be paid by credit card, money order, company check, or certified/ cashier’s check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted. Bring proof of identity and U.S. citizen documentation (such as a U.S. Passport or a birth certificate and a driver license).
