Church hosting euchre tournament

Film series begins

FLINT — Communities First, Inc. has partnered with the Flint Institute of Arts to host the third annual African American Film Series beginning Nov. 2. Reception and live entertainment begins at 5:30 p.m. for each date. The series takes place once a month through February starting with: Thursday, Nov. 2, “Floyd Norman: An Animated Life,” which illustrates how the legendary first African American animator at Disney continues to impact animation and stir up his own brand of “trouble”. Thursday, Dec. 14 features “The 13th”, a thought-provoking documentary, scholars, activists and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the U.S. prison boom. On Thursday, Jan.11, “I Am Not Your Negro,” where writer James Baldwin tells the story of race in modern America. Thursday, Feb. 8, features “STEP,” a movie documenting the senior year of a girls’ high-school step dance team against the background of inner-city Baltimore. Films begin at 7 p.m. Seating is limited to the first 300 guests and there is a suggested donation of $2 per person. Motown the Musical tickets on sale now

Peak Sports registering kids

FLINT TWP. — Registrations are being taken for Peak Sports, a basketball and cheerleading league for children in first through sixth grade, sponsored by the Flint Central Church of the Nazarene, 1261 W. Bristol Road. Cost is $65 per child. Peak Sports divides players according to ability and height, as well as practice availability and volunteer coaches’ schedules, to create balanced teams of similar talent.
