McLaren Health Care expands Gov Affairs Team to drive policy initiatives
MICHIGAN — McLaren Health Care announced on October 31 the appointment of John McNamara as manager of state government relations. McNamara will play a key role in providing strategic support in relation to public policy and government affairs initiatives. Additionally, McNamara will establish and lead strategic efforts to advocate for McLaren Health Care and McLaren Health Plan with state and local policymakers while building and maintaining effective and conducive working relationships to advance policy interests and efforts. — R.S.
Lt. Gov. Calley: Michigan awarded assistance/training to improve disability employment opportunities
LANSING — Michigan has been chosen to receive federal assistance and training to help implement its Employment First strategy, working to improve competitive integrated employment opportunities for Michiganders with disabilities.
The assistance comes from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy as part of its Employment First State Leadership Mentoring Program. Michigan received two designations from ODEP, providing the state with 300 hours of onsite and virtual assistance.
In 2015, Lt. Gov. Calley signed an executive order that created Employment First in Michigan.. He serves as the sponsor for the state’s effort. — R.S.
Gov. Rick Snyder signs legislation boosting investments in career tech education
LANSING — Nearly $3 million in additional funding for career tech education equipment upgrades and programming is now available under legislation signed last week by Gov. Rick Snyder.
Senate Bill 133, sponsored by state Sen. Dave Hildenbrand, provides supplemental appropriations for the fiscal year 2018 school aid budget. The bill increases investments in career tech education for equipment upgrades and programming, grants for students pursuing information technology education opportunities and Mechatronics programs. It is now Public Act 143 of 2017. — R.S.
