HAP boot drive underway
GENESEE COUNTY –The Health Alliance Plan (HAP) annual Boots for Kids drive, started Monday, Nov. 20 and runs until Feb. 28, 2018. Since the program began in 2008, HAP’s Boots for Kids has provided new boots to thousands of children in shelters and community agencies throughout Genesee, Saginaw, Bay, Lapeer and St. Clair counties. New boots of any size can be donated at HAP’s Flint office located at 2050 S. Linden Road in Flint Township. Boots can also be donated onsite at any of the businesses and organizations participating in this drive. Mill Road Bridge in Flint Township closed until further notice
FLINT TWP. — Due to safety considerations, the Mill Road Bridge over the Flint River, located between Beecher and Flushing Roads will be closed to traffic until further notice. MSP offering training for church security
FLINT TWP. — The Michigan State Police Training Academy is presenting a one-day seminar on security issues in places of worship, said Police Chief George Sippert. The course is ideal for clergy and others who are involved or may become involved in maintaining security at their facilities. Topics will include Identifying and handling suspicious or dangerous people, the Importance of a safety and security team, setting up a criminal history background check for no-profits; policies, procedures, and legal aspects and critical incident readiness. The cost is $100 and includes lunch and materials. Registration deadline is Friday, December 1, 2017 and the training will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 14.
