$210K in Grants to Support Youth, Young Adult Programming

GENESEE COUNTY – The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce on November 13 announced the receipt of $211,750 from several organizations and individual donors in support of afterschool programming, teen employment and efforts to assist young people in Genesee County. The grantors and donors include:

Joybox Express, $100,000 (YouthQuest)

Aspen Institute Forum for Community Solutions, $50,000 (Opportunity Youth)

United Way of Genesee County, $15,000 (YouthQuest)

United Way of Genesee County, $15,000 (TeenQuest)

Youth Advisory Committee of Community Foundation of Greater Flint & Grand Blanc, $10,000 (Summer Youth Initiative)

Youth Advisory Committee of Community Foundation of Greater Flint, $9,500 (TeenQuest)

Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan, Howard & Howard Law Firm Donor Advised Fund, $5,000 (YouthQuest)

Child Welfare Society, $5,000 (Summer Youth Initiative)

Genesee-Lapeer-Shiawassee Region V, $1,000 (YouthQuest)

Burroughs Trust, $1,000 (Summer Youth Initiative)

Small Business Saturday is this weekend

GENESEE COUNTY —.Small Business Saturday is Nov. 25, – kicking off the holiday shopping season for local retailers including small business owners. Established in 2011 by the U.S. Senate, Small Business Saturday shines the spotlight on smaller independent businesses and restaurants in a community that also need a share in Black Friday and holiday sales. In 2016, 112 million people nationwide came out to support Small Business Saturday, according to a report from American Express. The support helped small business owners generate an estimated $15.4 billion dollars in sales.
