DDA public hearing is coming up on Monday

FLINT TWP. – Public hearings on proposed boundaries to establish a Downtown Development Authority district and two Corridor Improvement Authorities on Bristol Road and on Beecher Road are set for 7 p.m. December 18 at the township board meeting, 1490 South Dye Road. Boundary maps and details about the proposed economic improvement districts can be previewed on the township website at www.flinttownship.org. –R.S.

Nominations still open for 23rd Children’s Champion Awards

GENESEE COUNTY – Nominations are being accepted until 5 p.m. December 15 for the 23rd Children’s Champions Awards, to be presented at the Breakfast for Champions on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint. The Children’s Champion Awards started in 1996 to recognize people in the community doing good things for children. The awards are designed to recognize and thank individuals, businesses, government agencies and organizations. Some of the awards include youth scholarships. MADD Genesee County to remember victims of alcohol related crashes

GRAND BLANC TWP. – MADD Genesee County will host its annual Candlelight Vigil of Remembrance and Hope on Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the First Baptist Church of Grand Blanc, 6106 Saginaw Rd.

Family members and others affected by alcohol-related crashes are invited to light a candle in honor of a loved one killed or injured in an alcohol-related vehicular crash. A brief video honoring victims will be shown. Anyone who wishes to participate in the candle lighting or to have a loved one included in the video must call 810-953-9854 by Dec. 8. Callers are asked to include a contact phone number and the birth and death dates of the victim. Attendance at the service is NOT required to have a name read and listed in the program.

Wreaths across America

HOLLY — Cub Scout Pack 175 will be helping to lay evergreen wreaths on graves at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, prior to a noon ceremony in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The wreath laying begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16. — P.S.
