Trash pick-up is Friday this week

FLINT TWP. — Due to New Year’s holiday on Monday, trash pick-up and recycling this week is delayed until Friday instead of the regular Thursday collection. Trash should be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. — R.S.

Police offering church security training

FLINT TWP. – Registrations are being taken for “Responses to Violent Intruders in Places of Worship”, a two-hour seminar from 6-8 p.m. on January 11 or January 25, at the township police department, 5200 Norko Drive. Presented by township officers who are certified instructors, the training is designed for clergy and others who are involved in maintaining church or building security. The training is being offered free of charge to places of worship located in Flint Township. Class size is limited to 45 people per session and pre-registration is required by calling (810)600-3270. — R.S.

Twp. board meeting times changed

FLINT TWP. — Township board meetings this month only have been moved to the second and fourth Monday, January 8 and 22, due to holiday closings for New Year’s Day and the Martin Luther King holiday. Normal meeting dates on the first and third Monday will resume in February with the exception of the second meeting of the month being held on Tuesday, February 20, due to township offices being closed for Presidents’ Day on Monday, Feb. 19.—R.S.

Sign up for Senior Olympics

FLINT TWP. – Registration for the 2018 Senior Winter Games are being taken through January 11, 2018. You must reside in Genesee County or belong to a Genesee County Senior Center and be at least 50 years of age by January 11, 2018. Birthdate is required for registration purposes. The cost is $12 and includes participation in an unlimited number of events, a t-shirt, and the Closing Ceremony Banquet. The event is observing its 40th year of competition. The Olympics will be held January 29 through February 22 at various senior facilities countywide and include a long list of competitions ranging from arts and crafts to karaoke, line dancing, baking and lawn bowling. Yard waste drop-off sites

FLINT TWP. — Weekly yard waste pickup by Emterra ended for the season on Nov. 30, but alternative disposal options are being offered to township residents who still have yard waste to get rid of. Local landscapers will take it, said Township Supervisor Karyn Miller. Those include Ficks Landscaping, 6452 Corunna Road; Country Oaks Landscaping Supply, 3218 E Atherton Rd. in Burton; and De Buck Sod Farm in Davison, for the full list, contact Rose Shifflett, township hall receptionist at 810-732-1350 . Miller also stressed that the Brent Run landfill in Montrose will not take yard waste but township residents can take one load of other trash there once per month, free of charge. — R.S.
