WFBA seeking input for Downtown Development plan

FLINT TWP. — The West Flint Business Association, with Flint Township, is hosting a Public Engagement Event to allow businesses to suggest projects for a proposed Downtown Development Authority and commercial Improvement plans for Bristol and Beecher roads. The meeting will be held from noon to 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 18, during the regular monthly WFBA meeting. It is free and open to the public and will be held at Paavola School of Dance, 5251 Commerce Drive. Lunch will be provided by the Michigan Vascular Center. — R.S.

Police conducting hiring test

FLINT TWP. —The police department will be conducting entry-level police testing on Jan. 15. So far, there are 13 applicants but there still is time for more to sign up, said Police Chief George Sippert. Eligibility and application criteria are posted on the township website at — R.S.

Police offering church security training

FLINT TWP. — Registrations still are being taken for “Responses to Violent Intruders in Places of Worship”, a twohour seminar from 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 11 or Jan. 25, at the township police department, 5200 Norko Drive. Presented by township officers who are certified instructors, the training is designed for clergy and others who are involved in maintaining church or building security. The training is being offered free of charge to places of worship located in Flint Township. Class size is limited to 45 people per session and pre-registration is required by calling 810- 600-3270. — R.S.

Last day to sign up for Senior Olympics

FLINT TWP. — Registration for the 2018 Senior Winter Games are being taken through Jan. 11. You must reside in Genesee County or belong to a Genesee County Senior Center and be at least 50 years of age by Jan. 11. Birthdate is required for registration purposes. The cost is $12 and includes participation in an unlimited number of events, a t-shirt, and the Closing Ceremony Banquet. The event is observing its 40th year of competition. The Olympics will be held Jan. 29 through Feb. 22 at various senior facilities countywide and include a long list of competitions ranging from arts and crafts to karaoke, line dancing, baking and lawn bowling.
