Kidney support group to meet

— The Kidney Cancer Educational Support Group will meet Sept. 20 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington Ave., Flint (off Robert T. Charter offers opportunity to win 50 laptop computers

— Make it a smart start to the new school year this fall by supporting your favorite school with a nomination in Charter’s ‘Back to School Laptop Contest’. Fifty laptop computers will be awarded to two winning schools on Sept. 27. Winners will posted on the contest web site at www.charter.com/laptop.

Contest nominations are open to anyone 18 years of age and older and can be made online by at www.charter.com/laptop and submitting a story telling why you believe your favorite school should win. Nominations close on Aug. 12 when a panel of judges will narrow the entries down to the 50 best nominations. From Aug. 16 -Sept. 20, the public will be able to vote online for the best nominations, with the two highest vote-getters winning 50 laptops for their schools.

International Exchange students coming to Michigan this Fall

BURTON
— A local Non Profit Exchange Program is inviting Burton families to host international exchange students for the 2010-2011 school year. The teenage students come from over 30 countries and attend local high schools. The students have their own spending money and insurance. Host families are responsible for meals, a place to sleep and a nurturing environment. STS Foundation has a local coordinator that will supervise the student and support the family throughout the school year. Here are a few of the incoming students that are requesting families:

Push for blood donors is on

GENESEE COUNTY
— Summertime is when blood donors are needed most, so that’s why Michigan Blood is giving donors one more reason to give blood. Michigan Blood’s Pure Michigan Summer sweepstakes invites donors to “Give and Get Away” to one of Michigan’s premier destinations. Anyone who tries to give blood through Sept. 12 can enter monthly and weekly prize drawings.
