Volleyball postseason

Davison, ranked as an honorable mention by MIVCA for several weeks, beat Saginaw Valley League rival Grand Blanc 3-1 to clinch the Div. 1 district title at Linden last Thursday. Davison beat Flushing 3-1 in the Div. 1 regional at Mt. Pleasant Tuesday night. Flushing had eliminated Kearsley 3-0 to win the Div. 2 title at Saginaw Heritage and had beaten Heritage 3-0 in the semifinals last Wednesday.

Bentley won the Div. 4 title at Flint Beecher after beating Bendle 3-1, Beecher 3-0 and Genesee 4-1. Bentley lost to Reese 3-0 in regional play Tuesday at Caro.

Football Playoffs

The undefeated Grand Blanc varsity football team marches on in the postseason after beating Howell 49-28 last Friday. Grand Blanc will play Rockford at Rockford Friday in regional play. Both teams are undefeated at 11-0 in Div. 1.

State cross country

The Grand Blanc girls’ team placed 16th in Div. 1 at Michigan International Speedway Saturday. Lola Thomas was 13th overall in 18:18.52, Sophia Thomas was 61st in 19:08.16 and Jaclyn Garvey 158th in 20:09.80. Samantha Shaver was 197th in 20:41.95, Lydia Minzey 198th in 20:42.26, Grace Tykocki 207th in 20:48.26 and Samantha Wagaman 211th in 20:49.35.

The Davison boys’ team was 13th in Div. 1. Brady McCardle was 19th in 15:51.35, Kenny Minto 22nd in 15:53.81, Iain Forrest 122nd in 16:51.58 and Brady Corkins 142nd in 16:56.87. Parker Austin was 217th in 17:40.82, Chase Baker was 219th in 17:48.28 and Ethan Gruenberg 242nd in 18:28.28.

Goodrich girls placed 10th in Div 2 with Kamryn Lauinger 17th in 19:06.34, Olivia Giza 63rd in 19:57.39 and Alexis Waring 103rd in 20:26.32. Natalie Steward was 162nd in 21:05.22, Avery Byrne 177th in 21:17.32, Elia Kentworthy 213th in 21:50.68 and Sophia Sheton 217th in 21:58.09. — L.P.
