Bobcat Boys Cross Country finishes 6th of 8 teams at championship
GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Boys finished 6th of 8 teams scoring 171 points in the large school division at the Greater Flint Area Cross Country Championships this past Saturday (10-10-20), at Cummings Center in Mt. Morris Michigan. The team ran without five of its top seven runners including the top two due to COVID-19 related restrictions. This was the second time this season that 14-day restrictions were imposed on the team for a total of 28 days of non-team practices. Hopefully the team will rebound with some of the season still remaining. The league meet, pre-regional, regional, and state finals still remain on the team’s schedule. The Bobcat JV team scored 120 points finishing in 5th place of 6 teams. Several Junior Varsity members moved up to the varsity in order to replace the missing squad members. The top Varsity finishers for the Bobcats were Griffin Dodd 31st-18:41, DeAndre Chilton Jr. 34th-18:55, Brian Simpson 36th-19:02, Oscar Paramo 40th-19:13, and Eli Keisel 41st- 19:30 rounding out the scoring top five. Girls Cross Country team clinches title
GRAND BLANC — The Lady Bobcats had another victory this weekend in the Division 1 Greater Flint Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Cummings Center in Mt. Morris. The girls placed ahead of 16 other Flint area teams to clinch the overall title with a score of 59 points. The girls ran in the Division 1 race. Leading the team was Lola Thomas in 1st place with a new personal best of 18:29 for 5,000 meters. Following Thomas, Sophia Thomas (2nd, 19:35) and Samantha Shaver (6th, 20:15) were named to the 1st Team All Division. Lydia Minzey (9th, 20:42) and Kennedy Kuhlmann (12th, 21:01) were named to the 2nd Team All Division. Rounding out the varsity race were Samantha Wogaman (21st, 21:40), Maya Youngs (39th, 23:46), and Karolena Popyk (40th, 23:52). In the JV race, freshman Isabel Fowler was the Bobcats’ top finisher in 8th place with a time of 23:32.
Up next, the Lady Bobcats will race again at the Cummings Center on Oct. 17, at the Saginaw Valley League Championships.
Goodrich girls golf headed to States
GOODRICH — The Goodrich Girls Golf Team finished in 2nd place in the Div. 3 Region18 Regional competition at Heather Hills Golf Course with a score of 365 to advance to the MHSAA Division 3 State Finals at Forest Akers East Lansing on Oct. 17. Cranbrook Kinswood finished as Regional Champions with a score of 355 followed by Macomb Lutheran North who placed 3rd with a team score of 369. The Goodrich Golf Team is highly excited of getting back to States After narrowly missing out of advancing the past couple seasons quoted Coach Walter.
Goodrich completed the Metro League Competition being crowned Co-Champions with Fenton High School. The Lady Martians were 9-0 in League Dual Matches and ended in 2nd place at the Metro League Tournament to finish league play as Co-Champs.
Six players were named to the Metro All Conference Team FIRST TEAM: Madeline Swett; Amanda Miller; Emily Madill; Abby Schell SECOND TEAM: Ashley Madill; Olivia Rushton
In Div. 1, Grand Blanc won the regional title at Lapeer with 326 strokes. Davison placed fifth with 394. Only the top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the state meet. In Div. 2 at Mt. Pleasant at the Pohl Cat Flushing missed the third qualifying spot by a single stroke, getting bested by Midland Dow 419-420. Flushing’s Isabelle Sparks did qualify as an individual, though, in the third and final spot carding 98.
