Living rooms becoming classrooms, face masks in the grocery store, visits with grandma and grandpa through the glass. In an effort to the make the best of a bad situation, many of us have started to refer to these changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic as our “new normal.” But let’s face it, nothing is normal about any of it.
Just like you, the team at View Newspaper Group has continued to make the best of our “new normal,” but there are days when it’s really hard to accept what that looks like.
Today is one of those days. You have already noticed that the publication name at the top of this page is not exactly the familiar name you are used to seeing each week in your mailbox. You will find that familiar name inside along with the names of our other Genesee County papers. That’s not normal, but it’s just for now.
So, here’s what’s going on. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on advertising dollars, our leadership team had to make some tough choices, one being that maintaining full staffing and full distribution of our six Genesee County free papers is just not feasible.
What is feasible is what you are now reading – Genesee County VIEW, combining the news, information and advertising from our six free papers: Davison Index, Grand Blanc View, Burton View, Swartz Creek View, Flint Township View and Flushing View. The combined edition, along with some trimming of our circulation, allows us to continue to mail the VIEW for free into each of those communities. Our VIEW papers also remain free online at www.mihomepaper.com.
View Newspaper Group will remain Your Community Connection now and when we return to the individual community newspaper model that we know you love. We refuse to accept this as our new normal. It’s not normal, but it’s just for now.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
