The Washington Nationals win Game 6 and Game 7 in Houston to win the World Series. My prediction of Houston in six games went down in flames. The fact that all seven games were won by the road team is astounding. I really doubt if baseball fans will ever see that again.
Now, let’s be honest about ex-Tiger, Justin Verlander, and another failure to win a World Series game. The ugly 0-6 record on the hill in the World Series is a sight that can’t be ignored. How can a potential future hall of fame pitcher not win a World Series game? If J.V. would have won Game Six and brought the World Series to his team, the Houston Astros, all those demons are erased. Let’s give credit to Washington in Game 7, as they trailed 2-0 and the house was rocking in the stands. The crowd was quiet when Howie Kendrick and Anthony Rendon slammed home runs to take the lead. The World Series win was the first in the franchise history. The World Series MVP was Stephen Strasburg, who pitched a gem in Game 6.
The baseball season is over as far as games are concerned. However, free agency looms large then spring training. The Tigers have already been eliminated from playoff baseball next season, as they will lose 100+ games in 2020.
Tide will roll over LSU
The college football schedule has a dandy on it Saturday afternoon! The No. 2-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide against the No. 1-ranked LSU Tigers. Wow, is this going to be a great football game to watch. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Alabama playing at home will make it awful tough for LSU to deliver a road win to its fans. I cannot go against Nick Saban at home. He is the best coach in college football.
The intriguing part of the equation is the LSU Tigers have the best offense I have ever seen. The LSU quarterback, Joe Burrow, has tossed 30 touchdown passes and only four interceptions. Joe will give the Alabama defense a rough time stopping him. It’s time to pick the winner of this number one vs two football game. The crystal cheeseball says: Roll Tide 30 and LSU Boo Who 27.
Spartans by slim margin
The Michigan State Spartans get back to the gridiron on Saturday after a bye week. Illinois comes to East Lansing for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. Illinois is much improved under coach Lovey Smith this season. I would like to believe that Michigan State handles this football team rather handily, as they are listed as a two-touchdown favorite to win.
I think the Spartan defense is the difference in this game. I see a Spartan victory by three touchdowns. Let’s also hope the Spartans are not peeking ahead to the game with Michigan next week. The Michigan Wolverines have a bye week this week, which means they have two solid weeks to prepare for Michigan State. I would say advantage Wolverines on paper.
How about Florida State firing coach Willie Taggert right away and not waiting until the end of the football season? I am not shocked, as Willie signed a huge deal and produced a 9-12 record. I believe the final straw was a 27-10 loss to the Miami Hurricanes last Saturday. Please don’t feel too sorry for Willie, though, as he will get a roughly $18 million in a buy out! Yes, I said $18 million! The bottom line in any sports is you have to produce or else you become unemployed. The expectations are high at FSU and Willie knew that when he took the job.
Big concerns for Wings
The pain and anguish I feel looking at the Detroit Red Wings sitting at 4-11 on the bottom of the Atlantic Division is concerning. The first big move I think by Stevie Y will be the decision to keep or fire coach Jeff Blashill. The team is not improving on the ice at the rate all of us want to see. I know the team is young, but improvement needs to be seen. What I see is a bunch of empty seats at Little Caesars Arena and it will get worse as the season moves forward. I say it’s time to remove Blashill and seek a new direction. What are your thoughts, Red Wings fans?
The NFL picks are next and I am getting closer
