FLINT — The Genesee District Library (GDL) has named Liz Kish as the new Branch Operations Manager. She is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, supervising and implementing of branch services for all GDL libraries. Kish, who has been with GDL for 12 years, served as Branch Librarian at the Headquarters library for four years, as a Library Assistant at various branches for one year, and as a Page for seven years.
“I am passionate about library service and how libraries can help people in our community,” said Kish. “As Branch Operations Manager, I will empower our amazing staff to continue to provide excellent service and spread knowledge of our library resources to communities throughout Genesee County.”
According to Kish, the biggest challenge facing libraries today is how to help people evaluate the vast amount of information they receive on a daily basis. “Librarians are trying to find ways to help people not only get the information they want and need, but also to make sure that the information is reliable and accurate,” she said.
Kish holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan-Flint and a Master of Library and Information Science degree with a Specialty in Public Libraries from Wayne State University. — G.G.
