SWARTZ CREEK – Organizers are putting the final brushstrokes on the sixth installment of the Krystal ArtFest.
The Swartz Creek Kiwanis Club and Women’s Club sponsored the juried art show and sale, which will take place July 26 to 27 at The Cage fieldhouse.
“We will have close to 40 artists who will participate in the show,” said organizer and Kiwanian Richard Mattson.
The artists will bring a variety of media, he said.
“We’ll have jewelry, pottery, photography, metal and wood products, paintings and drawings,” Mattson said. “We’ll have some new, not-the-mainstream kinds of things.
“We have one artist who takes coins and makes it into jewelry. We will have some fabrics, some ladies who make clothing and table runners and afghans using wool from llamas that they raise and shear themselves.”
The Living Art group from Corunna High School will return this year.
“They do a real good job and they take a lot of pride in it,” said Mattson. “A lot of effort goes into what they do. They are one of our highlights.”
The Women’s Club will have a silent auction and a children’s activity room.
The ArtFest is a fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club, which sponsors programs for youth, such as Camp 911 and Cops in the Park, provides scholarships and helps pay for youth to attend leadership camps.
The Club also sponsors one of the Fine Arts Association’s summer concerts at the Pajtas Amphitheatre, and helps maintain the Kiwanis pavilion and the playscape at Elms Park.
Admission is $3 for adults. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Artists who wish to participate may obtain information by calling Mattson at 810-449-3030 or via email at email@example.com or on the website at www.swartzcreekkiwanis.org/art/ calltoartists.htm.
