UNIVERSITY CENTER
— Even if she had matched her best time of the season, Lauren Foote would have missed qualifying for state by 10 seconds.

Maybe that’s some consolation to the Carman-Ainsworth senior, who was seeking her fourth straight trip to the Div. 1 finals. Missing by a minute causes fewer sleepless nights than missing by 10 seconds.

As it was, Foote clocked 20:48 in the Div. 1 regional at Delta College last Saturday to finish in 29th place, 1:02 off the last qualifying spot. The top three teams and any individual in the top 15 advanced to state this Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Foote had run a 19:56 in the Big Nine Conference meet for her best time of the season, ranking her 17th in the region. Coincidentally, that time was good for 17th place in the regional meet, but 10 seconds off the 15thplace time of 19:46.

Fellow senior Dana Cardinal was 59th in 22:08 as the Lady Cavaliers finished 12th with 333 points. Junior Markia Savage placed 71st in 23:21, junior Cassandra Pelkey 89th in 27:05 and junior Devin Willis 95th in 32:27.

A Carman-Ainsworth runner stayed just a step ahead of a Davison runner at the regional at Delta College last Saturday.

Carman-Ainsworth had three boys in the meet, not enough to post a team score. Sophomore Alec Neilson placed 77th in 18:46, senior Desmond Miller 89th in 19:35.1 and junior Jerry Stubblefield 90th in 19:35.4.
