SWARTZ CREEK — A forfeit by Flint Northern in the Div. 1 softball district last Saturday gave Flushing an automatic berth in the finals. Meanwhile, Carman-Ainsworth took a decisive 16-1 win against Flint Northwestern in the first semifinal of the day at 10 a.m. That pitted the Lady Cavs against Flushing in the title game. Flushing shut out Carman-Ainsworth, 10-0, to claim the coveted district title and trophy.
It hasn’t been an easy season for the young Lady Cavaliers’ squad that fields just one senior in Karlie Saunders. A large contingent of juniors that includes Tiara Gooch, Kamrin Gold, Jazmine Lund, Kelsey Ferguson, Chelsea Hoyt, Angela Swain, Tierra Mitchell, Haley Snider and Keri Hart, are shored up by sophomores Jennie Klapko and Kinterra Tomlin and freshmen Meghan Borgerding, Jessica McClung and Katlyn Koegel.
Flushing moves on to the Saginaw Heritage regional that includes Lapeer West with games to be played at Saginaw Valley State University Saturday.
