ORTONVILLE – Carman-Ainsworth opened its softball season with a rough road trip the past week, losing doubleheaders at Durand and Brandon. The Cavaliers also dropped a home twinbill to Bendle to start the season 0-6.

On Tuesday, Carman-Ainsworth lost a doubleheader to Brandon, 16-2 and 18-0. Hailey Fyfe had two hits for the Cavaliers.

Last Thursday, Carman-Ainsworth lost a pair of games at Durand, 11-0 and 15-0.

On April 16, the Cavs dropped two close games against Bendle, 6-4 and 6-1, at home. The games were scheduled to be played at Bendle but were moved because Carman-Ainsworth’s field was in better condition. Kaitlyn Koegel and Meghan Borgerding each had three hits, and Jessica Smith doubled and tripled. Fyfe also had a hit for the Cavs. Madison Cox and Jessica McClung each pitched five innings and allowed six earned runs, with McClung striking out five.

Carman-Ainsworth will open Saginaw Valley League play today with a home doubleheader against Flushing. The Cavs will host Lapeer East on Friday.
