Lady Cavs put together stellar week

FLUSHING — During Saturday’s invitational at Flushing, the Lady Cavs put up a 2-3 record on the day as Lake Orion went on to defeat Clarkston in the championship round. Carman-Ainsworth opened the tournament with a loss to Lapeer, 14-25, 14-25, before rebounding with a win over Holly, 25-23, 25-19.

The Cavs then lost to Flushing, 25-21, 23-25, 8-15 and responded to take down Davison, 25-20, 25-21. Their run in the tourney ended with another defeat at the hands of Flushing, 20-25, 19-25.

Sydney Cunningham recorded 14 blocks and Deja Lester came through for 13 aces, 35 kills and 32 digs. Jessica Smith had 28 kills and 52 digs and Sarah Thurston added 72 assists.

The Lady Cavaliers were absolutely dominant on the road on Thursday, taking down Holly in three sets, 25-14, 25-22, 25-11. Eriona Chambers recorded four kills and four blocks while Hailey Fyfe added 18 digs. Lester had three aces, 17 kills and 14 digs, Smith totaled six kills and 10 digs and Thurston posted 25 assists.

Carman-Ainsworth will be back in action on Tuesday at Lapeer. — B.P.
