SWARTZ CREEK — The Carman-Ainsworth volleyball season came to a close on Monday in the district playoff opener against Saginaw Valley League-South rival Davison, 21-25, 22-25, 9-25.

Deja Lester was solid, as usual, with six kills and 10 digs while Katie Speaks added nine digs and Sarah Thurston had 12 assists.

Carman-Ainsworth ends the season at 14-28-1 overall.

OTHER RESULTS: The Lady Cavaliers concluded the regular season on Saturday, hosting their own invitational. Carman-Ainsworth went 3-3 on the day and Cadillac ended up winning the tournament with a victory over Clio 26-24, 25-14.

The Lady Cavs began the day with a loss to eventual champion Cadillac, 22-25, 9-25, before bouncing back with consecutive wins. The first was a triumph over Pinckney, 25-22, 17-25, 15-9, and then over Kearsley, 25-19. Carman-Ainsworth’s final match of pool play was a loss to Clio, 18-25, 25-21, 11-15.

After pool play wrapped up, the Cavs moved on to the gold division quarterfinals and defeated Kearsley once more, 25-17, 25-16. Their run, however, came to an end in a rematch with Cadillac, losing, 25-21, 12-25, 13-25.

Eriona Chambers racked up 19 kills, 16 blocks and 17 digs while Che’Anne Hicks came through with 22 kills and 20 digs. Lester added to the effort with nine aces, 27 kills, 11 blocks and 38 digs, Jessica Smith picked up six aces, 24 kills, six blocks and 60 digs and Sarah Thurston added nine aces, five blocks, 85 assists and 28 digs. — B.P.
