SAGINAW — Amidst a 10-team field at the Saginaw Valley League varsity swim and dive meet at Saginaw Valley State University on Nov. 7 and 9 that featured powerhouses such as Saginaw Arthur Hill, Midland Dow and Bay City Central, Carman- Ainsworth/Flushing was still able to find a way to give a sixth-place performance with 175 points.

Highlights for the Lady Cavaliers included Emily Stemczynski in the 50 free in 27.09 to come in 11th and in the diving Jennifer Messina was fifth with a score of 290.45, Kassidy Lord was sixth at 273.60 and Taylor Wheaton was seventh with 271.20 points, all qualifying for the diving regionals on Tuesday, and Kenzy Lord finished 11th at 232.40.

In the 100 fly for Carman- Ainsworth/Flushing, taking ninth was Selena Adams in 1:08.83 and Rebecca Hrit was 10th in 1:09.18, Rebecca Bade placed 11th in the 500 free in 6:05.91 and Shannon Shaughnessy was 16th in 6:30.88 and in the 100 back Adams was 10th in 1:10.15, Hrit was 15th in 1:11.61. In the 100 breast, Stemczynski grabbed the sixth spot in 1:16.66.

“We didn’t have anyone qualify for the state meet, so as far as swimming goes, we’re done. There’s a potential we could have some divers make it to the state meet if they make it through regionals because, with diving, only the top placers move on,” said head coach Kevin McGlashen.

The Lady Cavs have been assigned to Fenton diving regional No. 5-2 along side Auburn Hill-Avondale, Auburn-Bay City Western, Bay City Central, Dexter, Fenton, Holly, Holland, Highland-Milford, Midland, Midland Dow, Okemos, Ortonville-Brandon, Owosso, Pinckney, Rochester Hills-Rochester, Rochester Adams, Saginaw Heritage, Saginaw Arthur Hill, Swartz Creek, Walled Lake Western, White Lake-Lakeland, Ypsilanti Community and Ypsilanti-Lincoln.

The Div. 2 state meet is scheduled for Nov. 22-23 at Eastern Michigan University.
