Local charity collecting new, nearly new prom dresses

FLINT TWP. — It’s time to get those prom dresses out of your closet to give them new life through a donation to Little Lamb’s Compassionate Ministry Center (LLCMC).

New and gently used prom and formal dresses are collected for future use by area youth. LLCMC is collecting dresses, shoes, purses, jewelry and other prom related items for distribution to local high school seniors during the upcoming prom season.

“The purpose of this effort is to collect gently used prom & formal dresses so they can be re-purposed for area youth wanting the full prom experience” said Dawn Ramirez, Executive Director of LLCMC. “We know how expensive prom can be and our desire is to give our, soon to be graduating, local high school seniors the opportunity to say yes to the prom dress of their dreams. They’ve worked hard to get to this point in life and deserve to be able to celebrate in style without breaking the bank”.

The organization is working with local high schools scheduling appointments for fittings on site. Dresses will be altered to fit each individual young person. The organization is looking for volunteer seamstresses who can help with these fitting sessions and who can make general alterations to the dresses. Persons interested in volunteering as a seamstress should contact Ramirez at 810-908-6002.

LLCMC has been providing respite and hope to families in crisis in the Flint community since 2005 when the organization first opened their doors to the public. The organization provides clothing for children, newborn through high school, safe sleep items, car seats, diapers and other items families with children need.

Donations can be made on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. or Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the facility located at 2254 S. Dye Road in Flint Twp., in between Lennon and Corunna Roads. Pickup of donations may also be arranged.
