— Parents looking to help their children earn better grades can attend a free workshop Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the Family Counseling Center/Recco S. Richardson Consulting, Inc., 6309 N. Saginaw St.
Facilitated by Recco S. Richardson, PhD, MA, LPC, the children’s learning workshop, titled “Your Child Can Earn A’s,” will teach parents steps as to how they can assist their children academically. The workshop also will cover children’s learning styles, working with the school, defeating homework avoidance, understanding special education services and unleashing children’s academic potential.
Along with Richardson, workshop presenters are Shannon Weist, LLMSW, SSW of Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools and Linda Hopkins, ABA, BBA of North Ridge Public School Academy. The Aug. 31 workshop runs 6-8 p.m. with presentations by Richardson, Hopkins and Weist. The Sept. 1 workshop runs 9-11 a.m. and features presentations by Hopkins and Richardson, along with a Student Panel Discussion by current K-12 honors students and high achievers. The workshop is part of Richardson’s “Peaceful Parenting” Institute, and the monthly workshops supports his goal to empower children and adults with tools to be successful.
Born and raised in Flint, Richardson attended Flint Community Schools and has a bachelor’s of science degree from Ferris State University, a master’s of arts in counseling education from Central Michigan University and doctorate degree in professional psychology from Walden University. He is a Diplomate, American Psychotherapy Association.
With more than 15 years of counseling experience, 10 years of clinical supervision experience and 10 years of adjunct faculty experience, Richardson’s practice is a multi-faceted human services agency that provides innovative and effective mental health services, seminars and research. He has provided programs and workshops for K-12 education, universities, colleges, corporations, community groups and religious organizations. Richardson’s Consulting is registered with the State of Michigan as a mental health service provider.
