Locals earn All-State in golf





The Div. 1 girls’ golf All-State team included locals Cammi Lucia of Grand Blanc, Flushing’s Kerri Parks, Lapeer’s Baylee Thompson, Davison’s Kamryn Johnston and honorable mention Brooke Gibbons of Lapeer.

BATH – The Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association lauded the area’s best players at its annual banquet on Sunday, Nov. 20 at Eagle Eye Golf Course at Hawk Hollow.

Making the Div. 1 cut were Kamryn Johnston of Davison and Cammi Lucia of Grand Blanc. Flushing’s Kerri Parks landed on the Super Team and also earned Div. 2 All Academic honorable mention honors. Goodrich’s Syndi Harding was named All State in Div. 3 and Almont’s Grace Zimmerman was honorable mention in Div. 4. Also on the team is Lapeer’s Baylee Thompson and Brooke Gibbons was named honorable mention.

The Lapeer Team was named All State Academic with a combined 3.678 grade-point average. Lapeer’s Emily Alexander, Baylee Thompson, Brooke Gibbons, Callie Kennedy and Madelyn Taormina earned the group honor. Lapeer coach Steve Carlson was named 2016 Regional Coach of the Year for Division 1, Region 6.

Also earning All-Academic Team honors were Swartz Creek (3.532 GPA) and Flushing (3.508 GPA). Swartz Creek coach Deb Culver was named Div. 2 Regional Coach of the Year.
