Mall beating suspect pleads guilty to charge, victim asks for leniency

FLINT TWP. — An 18-year-old man accused of attacking a Macy’s employee earlier this summer has pled guilty to the charge against him.

Damire Palmer of Mt. Morris Township stood before a judge last Wednesday to give testimony about his alleged assault on a 50-year-old manager at the Macy’s department store inside the Genesee Valley Center on June 15. Palmer is facing one charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a 10-year felony.

The Macy’s store manager, whose name has not been released, has requested for the felony charge to be dropped from Palmer’s record once he completes his sentence. As part of Palmer’s plea agreement, the felony charge would be replaced with a misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault once his sentence has been completed.

Palmer will be sentenced on Sept. 1 in circuit court. — B.G.
