FLINT TWP. — OrthoMichigan and Michigan Vascular Research Center, both located in Flint Township, were among several exhibitors Saturday at the Flint Health & Wellness Expo held at Genesee Valley Center shopping mall.

Sponsored by Cars 108 radio station and Chasse Ballroom and Latin Dance Studio of Fenton, the one-day event featured several wellness businesses including American Laser Skincare, Fluke Hearing, Level Eleven Physical Therapy, Swartz Ambulance and Vein Solutions.

Michigan Vascular Research Center, a non-profit affiliate of the Michigan Vascular Center, provided free carotid artery screening exams. The procedure uses ultrasound to detect blockages in neck arteries which is one of the first risk signs for a stroke, said Joanne Drago, technical director.

The company, located at 5020 W. Bristol Road, also provides free screenings for leg arteries, aorta (stomach aneurysms) and peripheral arterial disease which can affect all arteries in the body, and if not detected, lead to stroke, renal failure, aneurysm rupture, leg pain, limb loss and worse.

OrthoMichigan is in the process of changing its name June 1 from Family Orthopedic Associates but still will provide the same services and healthcare team of physicians, said Teresa Williams, marketer.
