Mall management changes hands

FLINT TWP. — There still is no formal announcement about a change in command at Genesee Valley Center mall, but clues have emerged from new e-mail addresses for top mall officials and other information posted on the mall’s web site.

SpinosoREG, short for Spinoso Real Estate Group based in Syracuse, NY, is now the suffix for mall contact info.

According to a mall marketing press release about upcoming events, “Spinoso Real Estate Group is a national real estate firm, specializing in Enclosed Shopping Malls and Largescale Retail Properties. The firm offers a range of services for the leasing, property management, repositioning, development, stabilization, masterplanning and analysis of retail-based commercial real estate.”

The marketing press release also stated that Genesee Valley Center is managed and leased by Spinoso Real Estate Group and that Spinoso has a strong presence in the Michigan market, currently responsible for five enclosed malls in the state.

At publication time, Spinoso representatives had not responded to requests for details.

Spinoso replaces Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), a real estate management group at the helm of Genesee Valley Center for many years.

A former JLL leasing agent for GVC referred media inquiries to mall officials.

As reported last week, mall vice president and general manager Ed McHale confirmed the changeover said declined to provide more details. He did say that the change was expected to have little impact on current mall operations or personnel.

Genesee Valley Mall, located at 3341 S. Linden Road, opened in 1970 and is owned by Genesee Valley Partners Limited Partnership.

Spinoso, which also assumed management of the Bay City Mall last year, bills itself as a leasing specialists with national retailer affiliations. That may bode well for the vacancies at GVC, particularly in the newer Outdoor Village corridor.
