FLINT TWP. – Genesee Valley Center shopping mall has announced that it will return to traditional Black Friday shopping hours and not open on Thanksgiving Day but opening times for anchor stores will vary.
Day-after-Thanksgiving holiday sales known as Black Friday have been starting earlier each year. Last year, many stores opened on Thanksgiving Day.
Genesee Valley Center joined the crowd, opening its doors at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and remaining open until 2 a.m.
This year, Genesee Valley Center will open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday, November 27 then will have extended hours through Sunday, according to a press release.
“We are always listening to our shoppers and retailers, so for 2015 we have decided to return to the traditional Black Friday shopping format,’’ said Kristen Cassabon, Genesee Valley Center marketing manager. “Mall retailers will open at 6 a.m. on Friday morning,” she said, noting that anchor stores may differ.
Macy’s has announced in a separate press release that most of its stores will be opening at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26. though hours may vary at some stores.
Sears reportedly will be opening at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. J.C. Penney’s has also announced that most of its stores will be opening at 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
Burlington Coat Factory will be closed on Thanksgiving but open at 7 a.m. on Black Friday.
Barnes & Noble bookstore will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Official Black Friday operating hours for other stores in the Flint Township shopping district will be announced later.
Genesee Valley Center has set up a special Black Friday page and will begin posting retailer offers on Wednesday, November 25, according to the press releases. Shoppers can also follow Genesee Valley Center on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay up to date with holiday happenings.
Beginning at 6 a.m. on Black Friday, Genesee Valley Center will offer special giveaways and incentives for shoppers inside each mall entrance, while supplies last. CARS 108’s Pat and AJ in the Morning will broadcast their show live from 6am-10am at the Santa Set in Center Court, where shoppers can register to win a $200 gift card to the Genesee Valley Center retailer of their choice.
Beginning with the store opening on Thursday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 29 at 3 a.m. EST, customers shopping at more than 700 Macy’s stores with Macy’s mobile app will have a chance to instantly win $1 million in Macy’s gift codes and branded prizes – including a Macy’s shopping spree, home makeover and trips to New York City.
Customers are encouraged to prepare for the game in advance by registering on macys.com/win and downloading the most updated Macy’s app starting Nov. 20.
Starting on Nov. 16, customers can preview Black Friday specials online through macys.com/blackfriday
