Man dies at hospital after shooting in Flint Township

FLINT TWP. — Flint Township police are investigating a shooting on May 5 that left one man dead and resulted in two others being taken into custody.

At 12:55 a.m. last Wednesday morning, officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Hatherly Avenue for unknown trouble and reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, police located blood and shell casings in the driveway and were soon advised that a gunshot victim been dropped off at McLaren Hospital.

The victim, 23-year-old Cormon Brewer from Flint, was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers then discovered that a Flint man connected to the shooting drove himself to Hurley Medical Center. The suspect, 22-year-old Raekwon Watkins, was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and then lodged at the Genesee County Jail.

Flint Township police were later assisted by officers from the Mt. Morris Township Police Department and took 24-year-old Jaquarius Johnson from Mt. Morris Township into custody in the 4000 block of Doran St. He was also later taken to the Genesee County Jail.

Watkins has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Johnson faces charges for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Flint Township Police officers were assisted by the City of Flint Police Department, Mount Morris Township Police Department and the Michigan State Police Bridgeport Crime Laboratory.
