Drivers heading through Flint Township to Mundy Township on Maple Road will have to seek an alternate route over the next several weeks while crews work to repair the Maple Road bridge over I-75. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) began work on the bridge last Tuesday by demolishing the span over southbound I-75, which has sustained damage from collisions with over-height loads over the years. Southbound I-75 will also experience nightly double lane closures from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. as MDOT crews remove the damaged bridge beams over the freeway. The Maple Road bridge project is part of MDOT’s $12.3 million investment to maintain and repair 16 bridges along I-75 and US-23 in Genesee County. — B.G.
