MCC extension campuses go smoke-free on Jan. 1

GENESEE COUNTY — As of Jan. 1 all of the Mott Community College extension centers will have a no-smoking policy, part of a step-by-step move toward a completely smoke-free institution for all MCC locations.

Smoking will not be permitted indoors or outdoors at the MCC Northern Tier Center, located at 4082 W. Vienna Road in Clio; MCC Lapeer Extension Center, located at 550 Lake Drive, Suite A in Lapeer; MCC Southern Lakes Branch Center, located at 2100 W. Thompson Road in Fenton and MCC Livingston Center, 1240 Packard Drive in Howell.

This is a ban on smoking cigarettes or tobacco of any kind in facilities or on the grounds that will be strictly enforced. That includes smoking outside doors of buildings or even in parking lots.

MCC initiated the no-smoking policy with the Northern Tier Center in Clio on Jan. 1, 2011, and is moving forward with the process, extending the ban to its Lapeer, Southern Lakes (Fenton) and Livingston County (Howell) locations, effective Jan. 1. The only place where individuals can smoke at any of those locations is inside their vehicles.

Existing regulations on smoking will continue for the MCC main campus at 1401 E. Court Street in Flint, but a total smoking ban will be extended to all college locations in the future. Smoking and/or the use of tobacco products is prohibited in all College property and/or vehicles, and within 25 feet of any entry/exit of any College building or facility.

Mott Community College is committed to providing a healthy, comfortable, and productive environment for the students, faculty, and staff of the college. For more information about the MCC no-smoking policy, call 810-762-0456. — G.G.
