An excerpt from Winslow’s Artist Statement reads as follows:
“The imagery attempts to interpret my lifelong wonder about the infinity of the sky and my love of cloud forms. Yet sometimes the images have liquid characteristics because my process is improvisational, involving the pouring of pigment, solvents and varnishes into wet oil paint. This creates a language of imagery that might read like rivers, flowing or liquid forms. Interlaced with improvisational mark-making, the images are animated with lyrical gestures, movement and action. Textures on the surface of the canvas also become an important quality within, as I employ experiments with characteristics found in the wetness of gloss verses the dryness of matte surfaces.”
The Fine Arts Gallery is located in the Visual Arts and Design Center on the Mott Community College main campus in Flint. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Free and open to the public. Details: Call 810-762-0443. — G.G.
