FLINT — The Mott Community College (MCC) Fine Arts Gallery will present an exhibition of work by Kalamazoo area artist Nichole Maury titled Mixed Media Installation. Her work will be in the gallery from Nov. 24-Dec. 9.
In addition Maury will give a Public Presentation about her work on Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. in the Visual Arts and Design Center, room 129.
This event is made possible in part by the Ballenger Trust.
Nichole Maury is based in Kalamazoo, where she is an associate professor of Art at Western Michigan University. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa. Her work explores the parallel relationships that exist within printmaking, drawing, and other process-based modes of working.
For the exhibition, Maury presents mixed media work that is tied to a sense of time and place as it suggests the act of mapping and recording. Maury has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally including The International Print Center New York, the Scuola di Grafica, Venice, Italy, The Chicago Cultural Center, and The Urban Institute of Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids, MI. Her work has been featured in the Midwest Edition of New American Paintings (vol. 89) and Printmakers Today (Schiffer Publishing, 2010) and can be found in the collections of the Midwest Museum of Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA. Her work can be viewed at www.nicholemaury.com.
The Fine Arts Gallery is located in the Visual Arts & Design Center on the Mott Community College main campus in Flint. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The public is invited.
