FLINT — Mott Community College is collaborating with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and the State of Michigan’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs for a one-day benefits fair for military veterans and their families.
The event will take place on the college’s Flint campus Thursday November 30, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Event Center.
Veterans of all ages and branches of service will be able to meet oneon one with VA, state, local and college representatives to ask questions related to VA benefits for compensation and pension, education, health care, private and confidential military sexual assault and trauma counseling, legal issues, and other service related matters. No appointments are necessary.
Veteran service officers with a compassionate understanding of the problems which confront veterans, widows, widowers, and children will be on hand to apply specialized knowledge in the best way to meet the needs of each veteran or other beneficiary who comes to the event. Veteran service officers know the extent, the meaning and the application of laws that have been passed by the U.S, Congress in the interests of veterans and their dependents. They also know the rules and regulations adopted by the Department of Veterans Affairs to clarify and implement those laws.
Education specialists from institutions of higher learning such as Mott Community College and the University of Michigan Flint will be available to talk about various educational benefits such as the Montgomery GI Bill, Post 9/11, Yellow Ribbon, and the new Veterans Retraining Assistance Program.
Representatives from the VA Health Care System will be available to help resolve questions about eligibility, or to address other health concerns. VA Medical Center, Community Based Outpatient Clinic, and Vet Center staff will be available to provide much needed information about access to mental health, primary care, or specialty treatment in and around the Flint area.
